EMPEROR On Appear On 'Metalocalypse' This Weekend; Video Available
November 9, 2007During EMPEROR's final visit to the U.S. this past summer, vocalist Ihsahn, guitarist Samoth and drummer Trym stopped by Titmouse Studios, the creative team behind Adult Swim's popular late-night cartoon "Metalocalypse" in Los Angeles. "Dethfashion", the episode featuring characters portrayed by the band, is set to premiere this weekend. Those who can't wait to see it Sunday night (check local listings for airtime) can view the online premiere now by clicking here.
MetalKult.com has posted a new video guitar lesson and interview with EMPEROR guitarists Ihsahn and Samoth. The video was shot in New York City when the Norwegian black metal legends came to America for a brief tour this past June.
In this in-depth lesson, the guitarists show how to play some of their band's most memorable passages, including "I Am the Black Wizards", "Curse You All Men!", "Thus Spake the Nightspirit", "Inno a Satana" and others.
Check out the full video lesson and downloadable tablature at www.metalkult.com.
Also on the site is a video question-and-answer session with Ihsahn in which the singer/guitarist talks about a range of topics, including the motivation behind his group's early diabolical image, his feelings on EMPEROR guitarist Samoth and ex-drummer Faust's incarcerations and how he managed to avoid trouble in Norway's treacherous Nineties black metal scene.
"I admit I was very caught up in the whole thing," says Ihsahn of the criminal actions and controversial views held by the Norwegian black metal scene. "But I've always been much more interested in the musical and lyrical side of things, and I've never been a violent person — I play it safe, in a way."
Also featured is live video footage of "Cursed You All Men!" from EMPEROR's New York City show.
